NSPCC Campaign – ‘Talk till it Stops’
The NSPCC’s “Talk till it Stops” campaign notes that up to
75 per cent. of sexually abused children do not feel able to tell anyone at the
time of their abuse and believes that much more needs to be done to stop child
abuse.

Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Tooting, Stephanie Dearden said:-
I welcome this campaign and recognise the need to ensure
that all children are listened to, and that they feel they have someone to talk
to. At the same time, we, as adults, should be aware of many of the risks that
so many of our children face and we should be more prepared to address concerns
if necessary. What is vital is that adults and children feel comfortable
discussing such matters with each other and that adults have the knowledge and
understanding to take action when and if they have concerns about a child’s
welfare.
Children’s organisations have been working to improve child protection, improve
children’s welfare and provide a voice for children for decades. It is
unacceptable that in this generation, one child in England and Wales will be
killed by their parent or guardian every week and that six per cent. of children
experience frequent and severe emotional maltreatment during childhood. The
NSPCC is therefore right to concentrate on its “Full Stop” to child cruelty
campaign, and to highlight the need for openness in discussing matters of child
protection.
My colleagues who work on children’s issues in both the Commons and the Lords
work very closely with the NSPCC and other children’s organisations, supporting
many of their campaigns in Parliament and backing up those campaigns by working
to influence legislation.
