PRESS RELEASE - 15th November 2005
Tories Cannot be Trusted on Special Schools
The leader of Wandsworth Council, Edward Lister issued a press release stating that the Tories in Wandsworth are supporting Tory leader hopeful Mr David Cameron. (Wandsworth Borough News 9th Nov).
At the Tory party conference on October 4th this year Mr Cameron went on record and said; “And we must win the battle over education.. Labour's idea of compassion is to put every child in the same class in the same school - and call it equality and inclusion. But I say that's not compassion … it's heartless, it's gutless, and it's got to stop. That's why a Conservative government will save special schools.”
Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Tooting, Stephanie Dearden said:-
"it is no wonder that the Tories are not fit to govern anymore and they have lost the trust of the British people which was shown when they were thrown out of office in 1997.
The rhetoric spouted by Mr Cameron is nothing more than his own hollow personal promises that he could never keep. The Wandsworth Tories who have publicly declared their support to Cameron have already showed that they cannot be trusted either, if they truly supported him they would show it by keeping ALL special schools open."
