Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Tooting, Stephanie Dearden said:-
The G8 countries must not let the consensus that has been developed through Make Poverty History and Live8 slip away. It is vital that both developed and developing countries liberalise their markets if we are to eradicate poverty in the developing world and to protect the environment. Although effective aid programmes and debt relief help to make poverty history, they can create dependency too. Fair trade rules which open markets but protect less developed countries from exploitation will provide the strong foundation needed for sustainable economic development.
